Insurance

Health insurance is strongly recommended for all international students residing in Korea. Exchange students are also required to submit proof of health insurance coverage from their home country. Otherwise, insurance plan should be purchased in Korea.

There are two options in subscribing to health insurance.

  • National Health Insurance (NHI) : CNU international students and staffs wishing to join in NHI Plan need to register and apply for the plan at the “Yuseong branch of National Health Insurance” within 15 days of arriving in Korea. Alien registration card/ or passport and Certificate of Attendance is required for registration. The insurance fee is around KRW 40,000 a month and three-month fee must be paid in advance.
  • Private Insurance Plan : Foreigners can also opt to purchase insurance plan by private insurance companies. If insured by private insurance, one need to pay full medical cost first at the time of treatment and later file a claim to get refund. Refund policy is in accordance with the insurance plan policy and refund will not be made in full

One can apply for the private insurance at the Office of International Affairs (Room 209, E 1-1) of CNU. Details of student plan will be informed at new-comer orientation day or sent by email for existing students. Special student insurance rate for a year is approximately KRW 180,000 in 2012. Please be informed that the insurance rate varies depending on insurance coverage, insuree’s age and sex. (Coverage and fee may subject to change every year.)
